The Wheelersburg Local School District had an auditing contract with J.L. Uhrig & Associates to provide audits for Fiscal Years 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. I was the Treasurer/CFO during each of those years and their audits. I am the main point of contact for the school district with its auditors.
I found the audit staff to be professional and courteous. They displayed consideration of our schedules even as they ensured achievement of their own deadlines. They provided ample time for us to respond to their requests. They did not cause a great interruption to our work during the audit, staying in our offices for a minimum amount of time as they completed large portions of their work digitally.
A very important factor in auditor-client relationships is communication. Their level of communication was what I would demand out of auditors. There were no surprises from their staff at the end of the audit. Also, I made use of the J.L. Uhrig & Associates staff outside of the audit engagement when a question might arise that I preferred to understand their perspective in advance. Their staff particularly steered me in the right direction when our District received a bequest of company stock, a very unusual occurrence. They helped me understand how we could accept it and then dispose of it lawfully. Their knowledge of Ohio law and the ability to assist a client stood out to me.
